The spy who loved not: MI5-trained unsexy spies

LONDON : Seductress spies, willing to slip beneath the sheets to obtain a top-notch secret, belong more to the realm of James Bond than to the real operational tactics of Britain's domestic intelligence service MI5.

In a dash to flights of fancy over vixen investigators, the veteran MI5 agent Maxwell Knight offers far more platonic advice for the use of female spies, in archival documents released on Friday.

Knight, the inspiration for Ian Fleming's character "M" in the James Bond series, pooh-poohed the use of "Mata-Hari methods" and praised women who can type instead.
